13th Charity Golf Outing

We are excited to announce that Oliver / Hatcher Charities 13th Charity Golf Outing will take place on September 9th at Meadowbrook Country Club in Northville. All proceeds from the event will benefit the Child and Family Life department at The University of Michigan C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital, one of the nation’s leading pediatric health care institutions. This department’s team of dedicated professionals is committed to reducing stress and anxiety associated with hospitalization and illness through therapeutic play. The Child and Family Life program is supported through the generosity of donors who have made a conscious decision to help kids and families cope with the stress and uncertainty of illness, injury, and treatment.

Since 1998, Oliver / Hatcher Charities has organized events and fundraising activities to benefit the Child and Family Life Department at the Ann Arbor hospital.  In addition to the golf outing, Oliver / Hatcher Charities also actively supports Mott’s Adopt-a-Family and performs monthly group volunteer visits to the hospital.  It’s our way of providing a little cheer to the patients, yet we always get back more than we give. To date, the Oliver / Hatcher Charities fundraising efforts have helped to raise over $800,000 that directly benefits pediatric patients of all ages through the Child and Family Life program.

This year’s guest speaker at the much anticipated 13th Charity Golf Outing will be Mr. Bob Woodruff. Bob is a veteran television reporter who has received numerous awards for his television reporting. His overseas reporting of the fallout from September 11 was part of ABC News' coverage recognized with the Alfred I. duPont Award and the George Foster Peabody Award, the two highest honors in broadcast journalism. He was also a part of the ABC News team recognized with a duPont Award for live coverage of the death of Pope John Paul II and the election of Pope Benedict XVI.   For his extensive coverage of traumatic brain injuries, he was honored with another George Foster Peabody Award. Of his 7 Emmy awards, his most recent award resulted from his reports about the brutal treatment of the Rohingya ethnic group by the government of Myanmar.

The 13th Charity Golf Outing will be returning to Meadowbrook Country Club which has been the location of many of our past charity golf outings. The course is located near I-275 and Eight Mile Rd in Northville. Meadowbrook was founded in 1916. It is one of the oldest clubs in Southeast Michigan and remains one of Detroit’s elite clubs. The course was originally designed by Scottish professional golfer Willie Park, Jr. (1864 – 1925). In his later years, Park built a significant career as one of the world's best golf course architects, with courses constructed in Europe, Canada, and the United States. The course at Meadowbrook originally consisted of just six holes on 125 acres of former farmland. The current 180-acre course was recently renovated. The recent improvements preserved the original Willie Park Jr. holes at the 2nd, 3rd, 7th, 10th, 11th, and 18th.
